Back in the Sewing Room

I spent the last few days, off and turning the sewing room from a bed room of the grand kids to a real sewing room again.  Quite a lot of stuff was moved to make room for the pallets the two oldest slept in.   Today I cut some of the scraps I had thrown on the ironing board focusing on the strips I'm now cutting for the class I had yesterday.

This was a great class and she gave a fabulous lecture the night before at our Contraband Guild meeting.
This quilt is made with dark, medium and light strips you sew together.  I thought I was covered with strips for this class.  I went to the 1.5, 2, and 2.5 strips  Turns out I don't have a good collection of dark, dark strips.  Basically I have a stash of mostly mediums and lights.  I do want to make this quilt though because it will be a good stash buster, and I like the effect the fabrics make.  I haven't done a quilt like this before.

Great retreat

One of my favorite retreats is Lake view in Palestine,TX.  Good friends and lots of sewing.  Includes a days visit to Common Threads Quilt Shop and The Dove,s Nest for lunch. Really good day. This retreat I got quite a bit done

.  I finished Alex' s quilt top first thing. Then I put together Cassie's quilt top.   This was a lot to get done. Then I began stitching a kit I bought of pyramids.  Had a really great time.

Ashleigh's and I quilting

We took time out from quilting to celebrate Ashleigh's 9th birthday.

Ashleigh got into her quilt this year. She did the cutting on the accuquilt, all 3.5 in. strips and I did the sub cutting. We set her up with an Janome Gold which seemed to be just the right size for her. She began sewing the muslin sq. and print bricks together. I had set up the seam allowance with mole skin and she got started. She did good, got a lot more consistent with her seams.

A visit with Alex

We had Alex for a week during his spring break. We went to the park every day he was here and he made lots of friends. We went to the library to get more to read. He went biking with his Paw Paw and Paw Paw showed him how to air his tires. My favorite part of his visit was reading before bedtime. We would pile on my bed and read lots of books. Of course that's Mimi.

I got some pictures the day I picked up Alex an got to see Aidan and Andrew too.

Retreat in Lewisville Comes to an end

Here we are, up late quilting. Ashleigh had me working! It was wonderful fun though to have her quilting with me. I do believe she may become a quilter some day. She is an expert clipper and kept me going. As a result 50 partially finished log cabin blocks are finished. These are for Emily's quilt and I need more than 144. The others are at home so I'm not sure how many I have done, but we made great strides. After Leigh set up her scrapbooking on Friday night, it was really special, a real family affair.

Ashleigh's quilt

Ashleigh's quilt top is finished. She designed the inside and I put on the border. I have to get the back done and soon will do that and take it to be quilted.

Ashleigh and Quilting

Ashleigh came for a weeks visit. The plan had been for she and I to make a quilt. I started by cutting fabric and as I did so she was putting blocks on the design wall and designing her quilt. She then learned how to safely use a sewing machine and how to sew a seam. We worked together on her quilt all week and got the body of the quilt put together. I want to finish the border and get it quilted for her. I think she really enjoyed herself and I loved being able to pass on the quilting skills. We have plans to make another next summer. She said she wants to make a quilt in colors her best friend likes so when she spends the night she'll have her own quilt to lay under.
She's proud of her work.

Time with the Grand kids, Gotta love Summer!

Ashleigh played on my computer most mornings before going to school when I was up.  I went to Dallas to go to Wicked with Leigh and really enjoyed the show.  But, I really enjoyed my time with Ashleigh too.

Alex spent a week with us after Memorial Day weekend in Rustin with the family.

The weekend in Rustin was wonderful with all the grand kids. I'm so lucky to have such great grand kids.

All of us, Ashleigh, Aidan, Andrew, and Alex and Mimi.
